Summary:
The Tale of Despereaux is a story of three parts. It follows
Despereaux Tilling, a mouse who doesn’t follow normal mouse conventions. He
lives in a castle, loves music, reading and Princess Pea. He’s very small, has
massive ears and is a complete disappointment to his parents. It follows a rat
named Roscuro, who though he lives in the dungeons, loves the light and soup.
It also follows the story of a dim-witted serving girl named Miggery Sow, who
is partially deaf and has aspirations to become a princess.
Written in short chapters, these three storylines merge
together to create a compelling novel. Within two years of being published,
Despereaux won the John Newbery Medal and the Dorothy Canfield Fisher
Children's Book Award.
